Molly's Syrup Dumpling Pudding

 
  Ingredients:  3ozs Self Raising flour
                           1 1/2 ozs Sugar (Castor sugar preferable) 
                           1 1/2 ozs Butter (or Margarine).
                           1 egg
                           1/2 pint milk
                           1 1/2 tablespoons Golden Syrup

  Method:
  Put flour, sugar and butter (or margarine) into a basin and rub together lightly until it looks like
  breadcrumbs.  (Having cold hands helps).

  Add the egg and stir it into the mixture.
  
  Put the milk and the syrup into a saucepan and bring to the boil stirring as necessary, then take off
  the heat.

  Meanwhile, make the mixture into 4 or 5 small round balls, by tossing them in flour.  Put all the balls
  into an ovenproof dish and then pour the syrup/milk liquid over the them.
  
  Place in a pre-heated oven at 180C, (160C fan oven) or Gas mark 4 and cook for 25 - 35 minutes
  until the top is golden brown.
